The Fifth Building Block… Assessment
The Home Education Regulations require parents and students to provide evidence of learning that has occurred in the home.
The Home Education Exchange encourages families to utilize the Portfolio Method for assessment. The portfolio may contain sample work, tests or even photographs (i.e., science projects, experiments) of each subject being taught. Sample work from each subject quarterly is sufficient to complete the portfolio.
Additional methods of testing are available at The Home Education Exchange. While testing is a personal choice, additional methods of testing and assessments are available at The Home Education Exchange. (The Home Education Exchange employs the High School Examinations, Canadian Achievement Tests, Aptitude Tests, Career Investigation Tests, as well as the Provincial Achievement Tests.)
Although home-educated students do not necessarily concentrate on specific grade levels, the Facilitator and parent should collectively attempt to evaluate if the student is adequately prepared for the next “registered” grade level at the end of each year.
