The First Building Block… Funding

So you’ve committed to home educate your son(s) and/or daughter(s)… Great! Now what?

In Alberta, families who choose to home educate their children receive funding from the provincial government, which is to be used for the purchase of educational materials which the parent selects from a myriad of choices among countless resources which are available to home school families. Your home education Facilitator will help you design and build your own approach for home schooling and will then assist you in selecting the best resources to support your choices. For the 2009-2010 school year, the provincial government provides $747.00 to each student, and these funds are initially entrusted to a registering authority for the funds' eventual distribution to the family in the form of reimbursements or directly to a curriculum provider to pay for the purchase(s) made by the family.
