I Am... A Grandparent
A grandparent and I want to take a proactive step in my grandchildren’s education. Am I allowed to do this in Alberta? Is it legal?

The Home Education Exchange has a number of registered students who are being educated by their grandparents. Occasionally, parents find themselves in a position where it may not be possible to home educate their children. In cases such as these, grandparents will often step in to take responsibility for the home education program – either in full or in part – depending on whether the child’s parent(s) is able to contribute to the program. The process for registration and the support you will receive along the way will be the same as for any conventional home school scenario. And yes, it certainly is legal.
