The Second Building Block…The Registration Process
According to the home education regulations found in Alberta's "School Act", a parent or parents has/have the right to provide a home-based learning program for their child or children.
You must register with a Registering Authority. The Home Education Exchange provides Notification Forms and a Home School Handbook in our Information Package. In completing your registration form…
- You are abiding by the home education regulations of the School Act,
- You will be assigned your personal home education Facilitator, and
- Your home education funding account will be established so you may begin purchasing curriculum.
The Notification Form is an official document required under the current Home Education Regulations for the parent(s) to use to document his/her/their choice of a supervisory board. You'll need to complete all sections of the Home Education Regulation Notification Form, sign it, and return all of its pages to The Home Education Exchange. You may fax the pages to us at 1-780-467-5514, use our online registration or mail them to us at our address shown in the "Contact Us" page of this website. For first time registrants, please ensure our office receives a copy of each child’s birth certificate.
We will then mail to you a confirmation letterform declaring your registration with thee within 14 days after the final count date, which is Sept. 30th of each year.
The notification period is open between May 1st and September 30th of a given year. Alberta Learning recognizes only the last school day of September as the count date for school enrolments; therefore, we must receive all notification forms no later than September 30th.
