According to the Home Education Regulations found in Alberta’s “School Act” document, a parent or parents has/have the full right to provide a home-based learning program of his/her/their child or children, and the parent(s) simply needs to notify either the local public school’s supervising board or a supervising home school board of a private school of their own choosing, regardless of the geographic location of this school of their intention to home school their child or children. We certainly hope that you will choose to register your child or children with The Home Education Exchange (thee), which is the home school division of the Morinville Christian School.
To register your child with thee
Below are the steps for you to take to home school your son or daughter through thee (really, for any school authority):
1. Complete and sign the Notification Form
(each child needs his/her own form for each new school year)
2. Complete your Program Plan for each child

3. Make a copy of your child’s birth certificate or Canada Visa/immigration document

The notification period for thee is open between April 1st and September 30th of a given year. Alberta Learning recognizes only the last school day of September as the count date for school enrolments, therefore, we must receive all notification forms no later than September 30th. The deadline of Sept. 30th is for home schooling students who will receive funding for the school year; you are very welcome to join thee after this deadline, but you just won’t be eligible to receive the annual home education funding for your child for the given school year.
Confirming your registration
Within 14 business days of receiving your registration documents, we at thee will mail to you our “Confirmation Packet” which will include a letter that confirms your registration with thee for the given school year.
Your home school facilitator will contact you to introduce herself to you and to schedule your first visit. Your facilitator from thee is like your own personal home education consultant and encourager who is available to you to assist and support you in your home schooling goals.
